Turk Invasion and Haryana

  • Jaipala was the famous king of Tomar Dynasty. When Jaipal became the ruler of Tomar Dynasty, Turk (Ottoman) invasions started from the North - Western part of India. After the decline of the power of the Caliph of Baghdad in the last phase of the 10th century, his successor Sabuktigin established an independent kingdom in Ghazni.
  • In 986 AD after defeating, the ruler of Hindu Royal Dunasty, Jaipala, the ruler of Ghazni Sabuktigin established his suzerainty (domain) over Pehowar. In 997 AD after the death of Sabuktigin, he was succeeded by Mahmud of Ghazni.
  • Invasion of Mahmud of Ghazni and Tomar Ruler Jaipala

  • Mahmud of Ghazni invaded India for 17 times from 1000 to 1026 AD.
  • Mahmud of Ghazni attacked Thanesar in 1009 AD. This was Mahmud of Ghazni's sixth invasion of India and the first attack on Haryana region. At this time, the ruler of Haryana region (Delhi and Hansi) was Tomar King Jaipala. Mahmud of Ghazni returned without any war.
  • In 1014 AD, Mahmud of Ghazni attacked again on Thanesar. There was a war between the armies of King Jaipala and Mahmud of Ghazni on the banks of Markanda river near Shahabad, in which King Jaipala was defeated.
